TAMPA, FL - For Hudson Valley Quickstrike Lady Blues, Washington Freedom and Ottawa Fury, the 2009 season proved to be a great success top to bottom as their respective Super Y-League programs mirrored the success their W-League teams experienced.

Ten W-League sides had representatives at the Super Y-League North American Finals, having qualified as one of the top teams in their respective divisions during the 2009 season. Three stood out amongst them all as they found success at both levels.

The Washington Freedom continued to excel as a club at all levels. After a 12-1-1 W-League season that finished with a run to the championship game, the SYL entrants finished with three sides advancing to the championship event in Tampa. All three finished with winning records as the trio went a combined 8-4-0 in meaningful games. The U16 girls at 2-1-0 were the lone side not to advance from group play while the U13 girls reached the semifinals. The U14 girls found the greatest success, finishing the tournament 4-1-0 with their lone defeat coming 2-1 in the final at the hands of Seacoast United.

Like the Freedom, the Fury have become a symbol of excellence in women's soccer. Their W-League side had another outstanding campaign at 11-1-2 in 2009. Ottawa were arguably the leaders in representation and quality as their PDL team was 12-0-4 on the year while five SYL teams - two girls, three boys - qualified for the championship youth event. The group of five teams finished the event with a record of 5-7-4 in meaningful matches as the U14 boys advanced to the semifinals.

Hudson Valley burst onto the scene in the W-League last year as Quickstrike began their first year in the league after acquiring the former Jersey Sky Blue side. They finished their first season 12-0-2 in the W-League. The youth sides also found success in Tampa as the two girls teams each reached their respective finals and the boys team finished 2-1-0. The trio were arguably the most successful of any club with three or more representatives with a combined record of 9-1-3 as the two girls sides finished unbeaten.

Quickstrike's U16 girls were 3-0-2, falling in penalty kicks of the championship game to Coastal WFC. The U15 girls on the other hand, were winners in penalty kicks over the W-League affiliated Cleveland Internationals, finishing with a record of 4-0-1 for the event.

In all, W-League-related SYL teams were a combined 54-52-19 in non-consolation matches for the event with three champions, four runners-up and two semifinalist finishers. Also capturing championships were the Cleveland Internationals U17 girls and the U13 Northern Virginia Majestics girls.
